Wednesday Whatevers

This week’s Wednesday Whatevers. And early for once! Yay!

  1. Would you want an arranged marriage or choose your own? Why?

Choose my own, by golly. I mean, I would prefer to have my parents like the guy I wind up marrying, but I don’t want them to arrange it for me. There’s stuff about me they don’t necessarily know (and probably don’t want to know ;) ). I am aware that arranged marriages usually work out about as well as love marriages, but … it’s not for me.

  2. What would you sacrifice for someone else?

    Depends on the person.

  3. Do you think God has a gender? If so, what is it?

I’m undecided on this but leaning toward the neopagan view of a single, genderless, incomprehensible deity which represents itself to us in dual form, male and female. That’s a MAJOR oversimplification, mind you, but that’s the gist of it and it makes sense to me. :) I’ve never liked the Judeo-Christian-Moslem male god shtick.

Something that I keep meaning to write a thing on is that exact thing, the Judeo-Christian male view of God. In my mind, it’s clearly a result of societal pressure at the time of the writings, and has no bearing on any actual God-like image. I think even if you queried any christians today, they would be unlikely to believe that God is a masculine image, but instead would likely be considered either ‘both’ or ‘neither’ – I know that due to my Catholic upbringing, when I try to ‘picture’ God, then the first thing I think of is some bearded guy looking down on me, but as soon as I stop to actually think about it, I realize how insipid that view is.

Whenever I picture God, I keep seeing that strange beast on “South Park.”
    Damn those guys.
