The Lost One: A Life of Peter Lorre

by Stephen Youngkin
This book has been WAY long in coming, and it kind of shows. Youngkin’s prose reads like it’s been polished one or two too many times. So far, though, I’m enjoying it. It’s a bit sad, of course, because Peter had such trouble with drug addiction and over-generosity, but even so, it’s good.
Updated 2/28/08: FINALLY finished. OMGWTFBBQ. This book has taken me nearly a year to read. Why? Because good god the writing is bad. Also the subject matter is pretty depressing — Peter was in many ways a deeply unhappy fellow. So sad. I’m glad the book is out, if only because now Youngkin doesn’t have exclusive access anymore and someone else can write a better book about this wonderful man.
