NaNoWriMo 2007: Day 10

Still chugging along slowly. Woo.

When they reached the lake, Chad heaved a huge sigh of contentment. The landscape was absolutely gorgeous: the lake was frozen over thickly, with snow in drifts around it. The trees had large clumps of snow on every branch and were unmoving in the hint of a breeze that wafted past them. The bright sun shone down coldly from an almost cloudless sky, and birds could be heard off in the distance. It was a pristine and beautiful view.
Chad didn’t give a rip. He was pleased because now he was going to have the chance to try something he’d always wanted to do: ice fishing with no actual ice cutting. He drove the jeep carefully onto the ice, about a third of the way in toward the center of the lake. He parked it, and reached into the back seat, pawing through one of his bags. He came up with…
“is that a road flare?” Roger asked.
“Nope! This here is a stick of dynamite. See, the part of ice fishing I have always hated the most is hacking through the ice to make a hole. I figured this would be an easy way to get around that.” He grinned. “I swear, you can get anything at a hunting store if you know where to look.”
Roger’s eyes widened. “That is just possibly the most awesome idea I have ever heard! Kick ass, man!”
