Words fail me.
There's this thing called "Separation of Church and State," Dubya. Look into it.
"I am mindful that we're all sinners... that does not mean that somebody like me needs to compromise on issues such as marriage. That's really where the issue is headed here in Washington, and that is the definition of marriage. I believe in the sanctity of marriage. I believe a marriage is between a man and a woman. And I think we ought to codify that one way or the other. And we've got lawyers looking at the best way to do that." --The President of this "inclusive" nation, in a recent news conference
I am so infuriated I can't find the words to express it. I feel nauseous. I really, really hope the ACLU stays on top of this one.
Reading
Finally updated my booklog with a proper blurb on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and a note about the book I'm reading now. Wheee.
Warning: there are spoilers in the HP entry.

Woo-frickin'-hoo, people!
Man, did I ever have a kickass weekend. I... - Saw and reviewed "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life"
- Went to the Giants game on Saturday and the fireworks afterward.
- Walked the Wharf to Wharf Sunday morning with the bf (clocking in at 91:23:61 - a fan-frickin'-tastic time since we were both less conditioned than originally planned and one of us was walking through an injury!) then...
- Saw Red Elvises at the Gilroy Garlic Festival
So... yeah. A great weekend, but now I am tired.

Heh
So at last week's meetup, Jonas and I did a little goofing around with our Aikido and wossname, the other thing he knows. Courtney posted a photo of it. Hee!
Hee!
Boy, now this is a surprise.
Threat rating: High. The Bush administration is concerned that it may not get a second term. Therefore, we are going to change the rules so that each Democrat vote only counts as 0.2 votes because Democrat is a shorter word than Republican
What threat to the Bush administration are you? brought to you by Quizilla
Water? Moi? What a surprise.

WATER OF WATER. Pretty lady! Fair and gentle, your empathy attracts others to you. Possibly psychic, you are pure emotion and are more likely to act on feeling rather than practical thought or logic. You think that's just fine because imagination is important. You are the Whore of Babylon with her cup of abominable things, the Medium of Endor and in the mundane world you usually make a good wife and mother. You shine when you are able to give emotional support to others. |

You know it's too damn hot when...
...you walk into the back room at your place of work and think, "wow, it's nice and cool back here," and then look at the thermostat and realize it's 84 degrees.
Now, to y'all in Texas and whatnot, that may not seem like much, but to this cold-blooded California girl, that is Too Damn Hot.

Meetup
As usual, the Blog Meetup rocked the house. We had a dozen people last night, I think:
Me, Courtney, Twon, Mark, David, Rich, Jonas, Jonathan, Faisal, Elkit, and Kevin. And some guy whose name I don't know and couldn't figure out from the others' blogs because they either haven't posted yet or don't know either.
Conversation ranged from hockey to women who protest topless to the One True Definition of Blogging. Very cool. Lots of fun.

More about my damn booklog
Well! My individual archives over on my booklog are working again. What did I do? Did I beat Moveable Type with a rubber hose until it worked? No. I replaced my beautiful templates with the godawful boring ones MT comes with. Now it's working. Sheesh. So I guess I need to redo my templates from scratch, try to make them work properly this time. Oy.
Sheesh.
Having received a number of messages about my booklog indeed being thrashed, I'm going to spend some time today working on it. Wish me luck.

A Favor
O Faithful readers, I have a request.
My booklog appears to be on the fritz, amking it impossible to surf the individual entries. Could some of you go over and check it out? Just cruise around the individual archives, see if you can use the links from individual entry to individual entry, that kind of thing and email me to let me know how it works for you.
Many, many thanks!

An observation
There are few things quite as satisfying as perusing one's server logs and realizing that in the last week, one's blog averaged 100 hits per day.

Nice
I read this on Jayman's site: As a single guy, if you are interested in a woman, quite possibly the very worst compliment she
1000
can give you, is that you are "nice." Nice is what you are when you are not: interesting, exciting, sexy, intriguing, wild, scary, sullen, etc. Nice is indifference in a pretty wrapper.
This got me to thinking. I have told the bf on several occasions that he's nice. This is no surprise - he'll be the first to tell you he's a typical Nice Guy.
But I do mean it as a compliment. Nice is only one of the things he is. It's more than possible to be nice and be sexy, intriguing, exciting, whatever.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Pirates of the Caribbean
He doesn't keep archives, though, so if you're trying to follow those links and it's after July 21, 2003 or so, you should check my personal archives here.

Arrr! Avast ye, mateys!
Yo ho, yo ho! A pirate's life for me!

At least if it includes the kind of adventure in "Pirates of the Caribbean," which totally kicked butt. It ruled. The dialog was cheesy, there were a bunch of cool references to the ride (both verbal and visual) and Johnny Depp was completely whacked out as Capt. Jack Sparrow. The female lead wasn't quite as bold and brave as the script would have us believe (she spends too much time looking unsure of herself, imo), but everything else rocked.
Even cooler: we got to see a preview for The Haunted Mansion, which has the potential to be totally cool... provided Eddie Murphy's curse doesn't kick into effect.
AND The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen opens tomorrow! This is a great movie week, man. Seriously.

Adapting to Adaptations
I've been thinking a bit lately about movies that are adaptations of books. For example, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen opens tomorrow, and it's based on a series of comic books, which I've read. (Thanks, Mitch!)
Now, there was a time when irreverent or less-than-100%-faithful adaptations caused me to lapse into apopleptic fits, froth at the mouth in pure, unbridled rage, and fall into seizures. (Damn, I gotta quit reading Twon before I post.) I'm more sanguine about them now, however, my occasional rants about Arwen notwithstanding.

FINALLY!
My mom's (and by extension my own) copy of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix finally arrived yesterday. FINALLY. That's what we get for having scruples and refusing to by the US editions! Mom's reading it now and I'm next, woot!
I can hardly wait. I hear there are some kick-ass scenes with Snape.

The glass is half...
[The scene: a party, late in the night. Everyone is playing Catchphrase, a verbal version of charades.] Phraseholder: It's something a flower does. Everyone [simultaneously]: Bloom! Grow! Attract bees! Ealasaid [eagerly, at same time]: Wilt! Everyone: [stares in surprise] Ealasaid: What?
I swear, I was having a great time. That was just the first thing that sprang to mind.

Independence Day
Happy 4th, everyone!
I spent the afternoon painting the faces of everyone from toddlers to middle-aged guys at the Serra Street Faire here in Milpitas. Yeesh! Ran into a bunch of middle-schoolers I'd had in classes I subbed for, which was cool.
It's amazing the stuff I can do if I try, it really is. I managed to paint a Hulk on a kid's cheek. I created a sort of Modern Art rendering of the stars and stripes. I did flames. Scary.
'course, now I'm gonna be the Face Painting Gal for ever and ever and ever... everyone's gonna want me to do face painting for their events. *sigh* I can't win.

Fireworks and Fripperies
So... tomorrow is the Fourth of July Serra Street Fair here in Milpitas. I'll be painting the faces of small children to draw people to the Learning Center's booth. Wheee.
I'm gathering small images to practice painting. So far, I'm pretty sure I can do a Harry Potter scar, a biohazard symbol, and a butterfly. Not bad, eh?

Schweet.
There are numerous benefits to trawling the archives of antwon.com; an increase in one's tendency to construct dense prose, added vocabulary, heightened sexual appeal to the appropriate gender, and genuine amusement are only a few.
The one that springs to mind in particular today, however, is that Twon sure links to some cool stuff. He doesn't link often, but when he does, it's always to something cool. Check out the following:
Warehouse 23 - the basement of a mythological building run by The Powers That Be. There are all kinds of random things down here, including The Red Book of Westmarch - which has a photo of Tolkien and someone who sounds suspiciously like Bilbo tucked into it. Definitely a good timewaster, especially if you're a scifi/fantasy geek.

Charlie's Angels meets South Park
Okay, so I saw the new "Charlie's Angels" over the weekend, and this thought occured to me while discussing it with friends. The following theory includes spoilers, so if you care about that, don't read the rest, okay? They're spoilers about the Creepy Thin Guy (Crispin Glover) from the first film. Decide now if you care...
