Sigh.

Someday I will learn that this is not a fruitful use of my time. As annoying as it is to abandon the field to idiots, it may well be better for my sanity. After a year or so of being fairly restrained, I gave in to temptation today. Wasted my time and that of readers of the forum I was posting on.

So annoying.

My one consolation is that it wasted the guy's time too ... though I think he might've enjoyed it, being one of those not-quite-but-nearly trolls. Feh.

Just another Goddamn Learning Experience, as they say.

There is an XKCD for every occasion! They are better than Hallmark cards, that way.

Annie filled me in a little more on the background here, so I feel compelled to offer a couple of unsolicited points from my own experience:

1) Hypocrites can't be made to see the error of their ways. Self-discovery is the only way to convince them that what they're doing is wrong/stupid/destructive. I speak to this point as a self-professed hypocrite.

2) This reminds me of a Buddhist saying, which I probably ought to keep in mind more often myself: "Becoming angry with fools is like being mad at fire because it burns." Easy to say, hard to practice, but over time you'll find a way to just roll your eyes at the small offenses and get on with most things as if they never happened (which might as well be the case most of the time). With entropy being the most constant of constants in the universe, stupid dicks (especially on the Internet [studies show they generate 90% of the commentary content on the internet]) are just not worth the energy.

I suppose that living in a small town full of backwards hicks makes it easier for me to just let things go and get on with the life I have, making nested parenthetical references. Frankly, eloquence and ordered grammar is a better use of my (and probably your own) time.
