What is National Novel Writing Month, I hear you ask? It's simple. NaNoWriMo is the month of November, recreated as thirty days of writing INSANITY!!! Mwah-ha-ha-haaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Ahem. Sorry, I got carried away a bit there.

Basically, NaNoWriMo is where a bunch of maniacs decide to try to write the first draft of a novel in 30 days. It's possible. I've done it five years running - 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005

I'm trying again this year. Go me. This is my writing log. Enjoy!

OK, maybe my novel isn't good. But I wrote it. I believed in myself enough to write six goddamn novels. So there.

Thpffffft!

BOO YAH.

Chugging along. Wrote over 3k today, yay. Finished the main storyline and am now beginning a short little adventure for Jaspa to go on to fill up the remaining few thousand words. Wheeeeee. Today's excerpt comes from the big final battle. :)

w00t! 36k!

Makin' progress! I'm somewhat irked that my clever way to fill time didn't last longer. I'm already to the part where Flegen is going to attack. Gah. This had better be the most epic battle EVER.

woo! crossed 30k!

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I figured out a way to pad wordcount without stepping outside the story! See today's excerpt.

I'm getting a much better feel for the characters this time through. although I'm not at all happy with the narrative flow, I'm starting to enjoy the process more, which is nice. I just really enjoy these characters a lot. I'm not doing a very good job of making their voices sound different, but then, this year's goal has been downshifted from "write 50k words that don't suck" to "reach 50k in spite of dealing with wedding planning and assorted health problems" so it's ok.

Dear Carpal Tunnels:

Please stop aching. I am not going to stop writing until I hit 50k. I promise to stop as soon thereafter as I can, ok? Then I will rest you and ice you and everything. Seriously. I'm taking ibuprofen for you and everything, so quit yer bitchin!

Love,
Ealasaid

Basics

Big Goal: 50,000 words written between Nov. 1 and Nov. 30, 2004.
My goals:
  1. Make it to 50,000 words.
  2. Write a book (or most of a book) that I'm not totally ashamed of.
  3. Not die of exhaustion.
  4. Have fun.
The Count: average 1,667 words per day

The Story: I'm writing a new First Jaspa Novel - originally it was going to be a rework of the one I wrote for NaNo '02, but I finally scrapped that and started fresh. Basically, it's about a girl learning to be a sorcerer and how she and her mentor (the school librarian) hold off an attack on the school.
