Day Dos
Well, I managed to sandwich in a little writing today. Hopefully I'll get home early enough tonight to do some more writing, because I'm only at 2834 right now. Yikes.
Nothing I wrote today was very exciting, so my excerpt is from yesterday's work.
Today's Count: 2,834 words.
Johnny leaned back in his chair and opened the drawer he kept his whiskey in. His father had told him that it was fairly standard for PIs to have hard liquor in their file drawers. Johnny liked keeping files in there, so he kept his in the next drawer up.He poured himself a glass and wished, once again, that he had a minifridge in his office so he could have at least a couple ice cubes with his whiskey. The liquor burned down his throat and he slid his chair back far enough to put his feet up on his desk while he studied the ceiling and pondered how he was going to make the rent on his office for the month. His last case had gone fairly well but the paycheck from it had only been enough to take care of the rent that was past due. Worse, today a fairly well-off guy had come into his office, discussed a case with him in just enough detail to let him know it was a good-sized but not impossible case, then told him he wanted to think about it a little. In Johnny's experience, that usually meant that they thought he was too high priced or not quite competent enough. Either way, they almost never came back. He looked down at his tie and wondered if he should get rid of it. This was the second time he'd lost a client while wearing this tie.
