hanging in there...

Made it to 37,070 today, yay!

Am tired. But it's fun going into the big climactic sequence. Should be cool.

What's tragic is that I'm having to fight the urge to start plotting next year's novel already. Gah.

“So you knew you were supposed to be here?” Millicent was wide-eyed.

“No, of course not. If the history books had said who we were, we’d have been influenced. We had to be here for other reasons.” He shrugged. “The sucky thing about time travel is that it kind of makes the whole free will thing a bit problematic. I mean, for free will to work properly and without causing tons of paradoxes, it has to be predestined to at least a certain degree. It’s tidy as hell for historians but kind of crap for us travelers.”

“Plus it makes the guys who run the machines a little smug sometimes. Like the guy who sent us – he figured out before we did that we were the three Chrononauts from the history texts and was all smug as hell when he sent us here. We only just figured out why. Bastard.”

Brand chuckled. “We’re why the record vanishes, too,” he said.

Jim and Reynold stared at him. “What?” Reynold said.

Jim held up a hand. “No, man, it totally makes sense! Think about it. I mean, really think. We knew the record was going to go missing, right? But that it was just this one, the one we wanted. That’s why we came here. And we’re the reason it goes missing – it went missing because we took it! Of course!”

Reynold rolled his eyes. “My brain hurts,” he moaned.
