Day Three

Wordcount: 5,017

Yanno, I think that it's the artificial deadline of NaNo I need to write. Even though I felt less than enthusiastic about writing a damn thing today I still churned out my 1,667+ words without too much trouble. So what it is that stops me from doing this at other times of the year? Why haven't I written that Jaspa novel properly yet? Or re-written the Theremin novel I wrote last year?

Sheesh.

Evran woke the next morning feeling more than a little confused. He was in a strange bed in a strange place and he was very cold. Bright light shone through a window onto his face, and he blinked until his eyes cleared and he could see around the room. The sight of the tables and cabinets brought his memory back: he was an apprentice to a sorceress now! He felt a thrill shoot through him as he ran the previous day through his memory. The fact that his new mistress was a vampire was a little unsettling, mostly because he had never met one of the undead before. However, he was determined to be a flawless apprentice, and once he set his mind to something it was as good as guaranteed that it would happen.

He got up and stretched, reaching stiffly for the ceiling. After years of sleeping in a comfortable bed, sleeping on a rickety cot had been an adventure. At least he had tired himself out with all his walking the day before, which made it easier to fall asleep. He went to one of the windows and looked out through the small panes of glass. The sun had just cleared the horizon. Time to head down to the courtyard and find Roger so he could report for his morning assignment, and hopefully get some breakfast.
