Friday Foofah

This week’s Friday Foofah. I helped with this one! Yay me!

Teacher Teacher

  1. Which teacher has influenced you the most over the years? What did you learn from them? Have you ever gone back to them and met them?
Wow. My teachers have been, as a group, the ones with the most influence on me besides my parents. I was school-obsessed as a child, teen, and college student. Off the top of my head, I’d say that Prof. Warren Montag and Prof. Anna Puckett-Stroh of Occidntal College and the entire English Department at Milpitas High School have had the biggest influence on me. I learned a lot from all of them – Latin and Greek from Prof. Puckett, who taught me to believe that I can learn something that intensely difficult, and English from the others. Prof. Montag is the one who got me interested in Rochester.

  2. Are you or would you ever become a teacher?
I am one, but am working hard to get out. I am a writer by nature, reclusive, vaguely antisocial, and I grow impatient very quickly. These are not good qualities in a teacher.

  3. What makes someone a good or bad teacher?
Hm… good teachers are infinitely patient, can inspire students and infect them with their own love of the material, and really enjoy imparting knowledge. Bad teachers are impatient, burned out, and not very clear when speaking.

  4. Teacher’s pet or class clown? Did you ever drive a teacher bonkers… or get accused by your peers of being a goody two shoes?
