Friday Five

OK, I missed the FF last week, so here’s last week’s since there are no new questions today (at least, not yet).

  1. How often do you get sick?
Semi-regularly. I get colds once or twice a year, but usually that’s about it. I have enough chronic problems, though, that sometimes it seems like I’m always sick (, , what appears to be a mild case of interstitial cystitis, allergies…)

  2. Do you take a lot of over the counter medicine?
Oh, hell yes. Ever since a doctor prescribed me 2400 mg of over-the-counter ibuprofen a day (that’s 12 pills, for y’all playing at home), I have been a huge fan of ibuprofen. I take much less than that now, of course. I also take glucosamine with chondroitin – that joint supplement stuff. I know it helps because when I run out, my joints all ache and are much more prone to getting really painful. I take Tylenol for headaches, excedrine migraine for baby migraines (I have prescription meds for real migraines), and Tylenol sinus when I have a sinus headache.

  3. Have you ever been in the hospital for an extended period of time?
Three days, to remove my exciting Dermoid Ovarian Cyst. That link is to the page I did about it. I’m all better now. The scar is practically invisible!

  4. Are there any diseases that run in your family?
Heart disease, both sides. Ovarian cysts, I think. Alzheimer’s. Diabetes has started cropping up, so I’m being careful and watching my weight.

  5. What is the best remedy for the common cold?
Lots and lots of sleep. I tend to beef that up with echinacea tea (usually with honey and lemon in it). The echinacea may or may hot help herb-wise, but the honey and lemon juice certainly makes my throat feel better.
