Poetry Survey

From Sarah’s blog
a) Do you read poetry?
Sometimes.

b) Can you quote a line of it without looking it up?
Well, dur. I’m an English Major. Where to start? Some of my faves:

I shall wear white flannel trousers and walk along the beach
And hear the mermaids singing, each to each.
I do no think that they will sing to me.
–Eliot, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock

A dreary young bank clerk named Fennis
Wished to foster an aura of menace.
To make people afraid,
He wore gloves of grey suede
And white footgear intended for tennis.
— Edward Gorey

Macavaty’s the Mystery Cat, he’s called the hidden paw
For he’s the master criminal who can defy the law.
–Eliot

For I had thought thee fair, and sworn the bright
Who art as black as hell, as dark as night.
–Shakespeare, Sonnet 147.

A was an Author who went for a walk.
B was the bore who engaged him in talk.
–Gorey, The Chinese Obelisks.

(quoted while listening to Tenacious D, so there may be slight errors.)
