Grrrrrrrr!

Some of my handful of faithful readers may have noticed that I have a bit of a … thing about the separation of church and state. That is to say, mixing religion and politics really pisses me off.

Well, our beloved President has given me another reason to be pissed that the Supreme Court elected him.

Pres. Bush is trying to appoint a Bible-thumping doctor to the FDA panel on women’s reproductive health policy. (Time.com article).

This is a doctor who wrote a book suggesting women pray and read the Bible to deal with PMS and and headaches.

This is a doctor who will not prescribe contraceptives to unmarried women and who has already tried to reverse the FDA’s approval of RU-486, the “morning after” pill on religious grounds.

If you, like me, would be horrified at the thought of this man leading the decision-making process on women’s reproductive health, please email President Bush at president@whitehouse.gov or call the White House at 202-456-1111 protesting Dr. W. David Hager’s appointment. I’m gonna call and say something like, “I oppose the appointment of Dr. Hager to the FDA Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee. Mixing religion and medicine is unacceptable. Using the FDA to promote a religious agenda is inappropriate and seriously threatens all women’s health.”

I can put up with a man leading a panel on women’s reproductive health, but not a man with these pre-existing religion-based biases. It’s bad enough we have to deal with Bush funding missionaries in Thailand on our dime. Grrrrrrr.

Thanks to Kay for giving me a heads-up about this.
