Movies? What movies?

Dood, what the heck happened to Hollywood this weekend? None of the big movies I have as options for a film to review for this week look particularly good.

Let me see, what are my option?

  • Phone Booth – not even an hour and a half long (it’s only 74 minutes minus ending credits, apparently), it consists mostly of a single phone call. Gets bonus points for having been postponed due to the Washington DC sniper shootings, but still. Not exciting.
  • A Man Apart – Vin Diesel in yet another overblown action flick, and this one looks like it’s trying to be gritty. They killed his wife so he’s a man with nothing to lose. BLAAAAAAARGH. I generally enjoy Vin’s work, but dayumm.
  • Head of State – Chris Rock as a presidential candidate. Has potential, but could easily also be full of lame racial “humor” and just generally suck. I’m not anti-Chris Rock, but I’m not a fan, either.
  • What a Girl Wants – teenage girl at center of film. I am so not into that. ;-p

Not like they look actively bad. “A Man Apart” could be one of those delightfully awful action flicks. “Head of State” might be funny – Chris Rock has his moments (like most of “Dogma”). “Phone Booth” might be cool. Well, ok, “What a Girl Wants” is probably unredeemable without large quantities of alcohol or a bunch of galpals I could mock it with. What’s an amateur reviewer to do?

Maybe I’ll flip a coin.
