Erich von Stroheim on DVD!!!

I must own these. Must. I’ve been a Stroheim fan for a while now (even wrote a term paper about him, and always mourned the fact that there weren’t any of his movies out on DVD. Now there are! I NEED THESE. Kino is putting them out.

  • Blind Husbands / The Great Gabbo – I haven’t seen The Great Gabbo yet, but Blind Husbands is absolutely brilliant. It actually suggests that an inattentive husband may contribute to his wife’s temptation to commit adultery! Quite startling in a silent film!
  • Foolish Wives / The Man You Loved To Hate – the companion piece to Blind Husbands along with a biography of the great man. Yikes!
  • Queen Kelly – the film that ended Stroheim’s career as a director! He never actually finished this because he was fired partway through. Stupid Gloria Swanson got her boyfriend (the producer) to halt production. Argh!

Extras include cut scenes, production stills, commentary by Richard Koszarski, and nifty scenes from TV and other films. I want these so bad… I may splurge and order them for myself. They’re only about $20 each if you preorder them…
