The Lowdown

So you’ve probably been wondering why I haven’t been blogging.
Some of my readers have emailed asking, and I’ve explained to them, but here’s the deal for everyone else.

Put briefly, my beloved webhost Drak.net has been undergoing a series of crises which left many of us missing key functionalities for a LONG time. I am regretfully making preparations to move from Drak.net over to Twonsoft (where I know the boss and have his phone number). I love Drak and hate to leave, but going six weeks with neither the ability to update the Berkeley DB backend for Movable Type NOR an ETA on when I’d be able to was just too much.
There have been other problems as well, including my email password breaking and not getting fixed for nearly five days. I sympathise with Drak.net and know they’ve had a rough time of it too, but I can’t stay with a host that seems to have grown beyond its crises-managing capability. I stuck it out for a long time because Drak.net had stockpiled a lot of brownie points in the two years I was with them but I can’t hang in there any longer. I’m throwing in my lot with a MUCH smaller host in the hopes that things will be better.
Once the loose ends are wrapped up, I’ll be moving ealasaid.com in its entirety over here. All your old bookmarks will still work.
Those who want the blow-by-blow tally of the last few weeks, feel free to email me.
